when it comes to Kingsley Ben-Adir-based biopic, Bob Marley: One Lovesole opinion ziggy marley Thinks it’s about his late father, Bob Marley,
The musician gave ET’s Kevin Frazier a private tour of the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, Jamaica and opened up about it The upcoming film is produced by his family With the aim of celebrating the life and music of “an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity”. one love Bob’s powerful story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music are highlighted.
“For me, in this movie, I think one of the things that made me think about is what my father and my mother went through that we didn’t see. Kind of emotional [turmoil], and that’s really what the movie is about. It’s really exploring things,” Ziggy explains. “The Bob Marley that’s on TV and that you’ve seen in videos – that’s not the Bob Marley that we’re really looking for. We’re discovering the Bob Marley you don’t know. It made me think as a human being, what emotional things he might be going through [the assassination attempt],
Ziggy says the film’s desire for authenticity led him to think about his father’s “vulnerabilities”, which are usually forgotten due to the glare of the spotlight and his rock star persona.
“A lot of people look at my dad like a rock star, you know, tough. But he’s got feelings, right? He’s got feelings,” Ziggy says. “he suffered, [and] At the end of it all, he came to this heavy decision that his life wasn’t for him, you know?”
With this in mind, the reggae musician believes his father “would have loved” the film directed by Reynaldo Marcus Green. “We’re representing in the right way, and again, the important thing… I told the cast and crew that this is not a vanity project. We’re not doing it for vanity, we’re doing it with a purpose.” And it seems to me [with] “As a basis, they will be happy that at least if there’s one thing we get right it’s that the intention is right and the message is right.”
“The studio agreed, I agreed [and] The director agreed, if we’re not doing it right, we won’t do it,” he says firmly. “If we’re in the middle of it and it’s not working, let’s scrap it. ‘Cause we wouldn’t say anything about Bob that’s not true, you know? So we think it’s right.”

Looking back at the early days of development and preparation one loveBen-Adir explained that he and the producers agreed on “authenticity and language and how Bob spoke [were] Most importantly, and [we’re] Don’t whitewash anything.”
This meant that Ben-Adir took responsibility for perfectly achieving Bob’s voice and timbre – as well as his musicality. “I thoroughly enjoyed it,” Ben-Adir said of listening to Bob’s music and sharing audio of him speaking. “Because it was an excuse to listen to Bob all the time.”
Ben-Adir admitted that he was also listening to Bob during shooting barbieIn which he played one of the many Kanes alongside Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Nkuti Gatwa and Scott Evans.
“I just wanted to move on, because I was like, ‘I’ve been at this for three and a half months and I can’t waste any time. I have to start right now!'” Ben-Adir explained. “Especially with guitar and language, you know? It’s going to be a slow process and you have to take basic steps into it.”
He added, “There’s a lot of free time on a film set… It’s worth going to Bob and listening to him, trying to understand the language and learn guitar.”
Despite practicing and working to find Bob’s voice between shooting scenes barbieBen-Adir admitted that she never really shared her journey with anyone, explaining, “My process was private for as long as possible – until I needed help.”
Ziggy told ET that he had no regrets about casting Ben-Adir for the role, explaining that he and the production did an “exhaustive search” to find the right actor.
“Kingsley wasn’t the first choice. We tried to find someone from Jamaica [who] Speaks the language and knows things,” Ziggy admits. “But I remember when I saw Kingsley’s audition, I was like, I’m looking at this guy [and] Other people were like, eh. But this guy, I didn’t go eh. I said, ‘Okay, I see something.’ And so when we found out it was the one, it was easy.”
He further said that he and his family were not worried that Ben-Adir being British would tarnish his portrayal. “We were looking for someone who had the ability to attract attention, so he was the one who attracted my attention and I’m Bob’s son. He attracted my attention, also attracted my sister’s attention [and] My brother’s attention. “We can work with everything else.”
In the end, Ziggy emphasizes that the film is not solely about his father’s story, but also about the message he wanted to send to the world. “It’s not about immortalizing him, even though that might be a by-product,” he explains. “The priority is to immortalize the message so that the message can reach new generations and continue to flourish over time. So I think this film is that; it’s really one of the things I’m most happy about.” It’s immortalizing that message of one love. It’s putting it in a different place so it can extend its reach and life.”
Bob Marley: One Love Will be released in theaters on 14 February.
