zoe kravitzHis directorial debut film is getting a new brand. The film was previously known as cat island – starring Kravitz’s now-fiancée, Channing Tatum – Has a new title and release date.

Amazon MGM Studios announced Friday that the film will now be called blink twice And will be released on 23rd August. Kravitz wrote the script with E.T. Feigenbaum.

According to the project’s logline, Tatum plays tech billionaire Slater King, who works with a cocktail waitress named Frieda (Naomi Ackie). He takes her to a dreamy island with friends, before a series of strange events cause Frida to question her reality. The psychological thriller features an ensemble cast that includes Alia Shawkat, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Christian Slater, Kylie MacLachlan and Geena Davis.

In an interview for 2022 WSJ Magazine‘S Fall women’s fashion issue, Kravitz shared that story “It was born out of a lot of anger and frustration about the lack of conversation about the treatment of women, especially in industries where there’s a lot of money, like Hollywood, the tech world, all of that.”

After hearing stories of powerful men inviting women to remote islands for hazy hedonistic freedom, Kravitz began writing several years ago, before the #MeToo movement that swept Hollywood, about that version of reality. Imagine what she wanted and see instead.

“The title comes from that world. The title is the seed of the story,” he explained of its original name. “It represents a time where it would be acceptable for a group of men to call a place that, and the illusion is that we are now out of that time.”

Tatum’s role would mark a departure for the actor.

“It’s always interesting when someone brings you something that no one else has ever thought of,” Starr – whose company, Free Association, is a co-producer of the project – told WSJ. magazine.

Although Kravitz and Tatum did not know each other before the film, they have since become close personally And Professionally. When considering your decision to cast Magic Mike Film alum Kravitz said she wanted Tatum for the role because he “hadn’t played a dark character before.”

He said, “I think it’s exciting to see someone who has mostly played the guy next door, the nice guy, the love interest, all of that.” “I felt even remotely, before I knew her, that she was a feminist and she wasn’t afraid to explore that darkness, because she knows she’s not like that. That’s why I was attracted to her.” And I wanted to meet him. And I was right.”

During location filming in Yucatan, Tatum had earlier told ET that he was “amazed” by Kravitz’s directing skills.

“We’re doing some really cool things,” he said of the film. “It’s extremely stylish and still really funny, but there’s a lot of depth to it and I think at some point it has a shocking message.”

at Confirmed in late October That Kravitz, 35, and Channing, 43, had quietly gotten engaged more than two years after they first sparked romance rumors.
