Amazon The company is laying off about 30 employees at its Buy With Prime unit as it continues to look for ways to cut costs, CNBC has learned.
Amazon said the cuts would affect less than 5% of employees in the Buy With Prime division. Buy with Prime is a service that offers online stores the same two-day shipping benefits offered to Prime customers. Since its launch in April 2022, Amazon has expanded the program, including tie-ups Shopify And sales force,
Amazon did not disclose how many employees it has in its Buy with Prime segment.
“We regularly review the structure of our teams and make adjustments based on business needs and following a recent review, we have made the difficult decision to eliminate certain roles on our purchase with Prime Team,” One Amazon said. The spokesperson said in a statement.
The spokesperson said that Buy with Prime remains a “top priority for Amazon” and that the company plans to continue investing “significant resources” in the program.
Some of the affected employees worked in Amazon’s multichannel fulfillment unit, which sits alongside Prime with Buy under the “Project Santos” organization, which is overseen by Peter Larson, a longtime vice president at the company with knowledge of the cuts. One person said. Multichannel fulfillment allows merchants to ship and store products using Amazon’s services, even if they are selling on a home site.
Amazon has cut more than 27,000 jobs at the company as part of layoffs that begin in late 2022. The job cuts continue this year, with Amazon last week letting go of workers at its Prime Video, MGM, Twitch, Audible and Amazon Pay units. Other tech companies including Googlediscord, xerox And Unity has also announced layoffs from the beginning of the new year.
Amazon said it is assisting Bye with Prime employees who were laid off in finding new roles elsewhere within the company. Employees will continue to receive their pay and benefits for at least 60 days, and will be eligible for a severance package.
