For Kingsley Ben-Adirportrait of great musician Bob Marley True authenticity requires immense dedication and hard work.
So hard, in fact, that the 37-year-old actor was working on getting into character while he was still on the set of another project.
Recently while promoting his new biopic. Bob Marley: One LoveIn London, Ben-Adir opened up to ET’s Kevin Frazier about preparing for the role while filming his scenes. barbie Movies.
Looking back at the early days of development and preparation one loveBen-Adir explained that he and the producers agreed on “authenticity and language and how Bob spoke [were] Most importantly, and [we’re] Don’t whitewash anything.”
This meant that Ben-Adir took responsibility for perfectly achieving Marley’s voice and cadence – as well as his musicality.
Ben-Adir listened to Marley’s music and shared audio of him speaking, saying, “I thoroughly enjoyed it.” “Because it was an excuse to listen to Bob all the time.”
Ben-Adir admitted he was also listening to Marley during shooting barbieIn which he played one of the many Kanes alongside Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Nkuti Gatwa and Scott Evans.
“I just wanted to move forward, because I was like, ‘I’ve been at this for three and a half months and I can’t waste any time. I have to start right now!'” Ben-Adir explained. “Especially with guitar and language, you know? It’s going to be a slow process and you have to take basic steps into it.”
He added, “On a film set, a lot of time is wasted…it’s just going to Bob and listening to him and trying to understand the language and learn the guitar.”
Despite practicing and working to find Marley’s voice between shooting scenes barbieBen-Adir admitted that she never really shared her journey with anyone, explaining, “My process was private for as long as possible – until I needed help.”
Directed by Renaldo Marcus Green – and produced in partnership with the Marley family – one love It also stars Lashana Lynch, James Norton, Tosin Cole, Anthony Welsh, Michael Gandolfini, Umi Myers and Nadine Marshall.
The project is one of the first authorized biopics of the groundbreaking artist, and serves as a producer alongside Bob’s son, Ziggy Marley, Rita Marley, Cedella Marley, Robert Teitel, Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner, and executive producer Richard We do. Hewitt, Orly Marley, and Matt Solodaki. Bob Marley: One Love Will be released in theaters on 14 February.
